I do like the fact that the Rivoli was reissued, and I really like the look of them in natural - such a rare finish to find on a vintage one! I can't speak to the sound or feel, since I've never had a chance to play one.
The Country Gent 6072 is/was absolutely stunning! Pure vanity forced me to vote for it. I was drooling over that one for sale @DP too.
I heard a clip on Youtube of a Gretsch bass, and was impressed by its apparent playability. This one is a Broadkaster, but has those same Filtertron pickups:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=OTHATbhixj4Once I got past the visual contradiction of Wooten chops and drop-D on a Rockabilly-lookin' bass, it struck me as to how fast and articulate it appears to be - for a giant jazz-box hollowbody with a rustic-looking "fixed" bridge. Even though it was recorded through a crappy camcorder mic, it sounds like it has great frequency response too. I could just imagine the blur of indistinction coming out of the amp if that guy was playing my EB-2!
That's the beauty, though. Each bass has its own, unique voice and charm. It is for this reason that you should buy both the Rivoli and the Gretsch. I'm only here to help.
BTW - will one of those switches make you sound like Duane Eddy?
