I bought this lovely Guild from Albert's music shop in Hampton, Twickenham in about 1992 -1993. It was a special order and I had to wait several months for it to arrive from the US. At the time, I wanted a large accoustic with an elecric-style neck that I could play in places where there were no amps. After drawing a blank for a long time, I remember being told that Guild were making three that would fit my needs and that I could get one of them if I ordered right away. I placed the order immediately. I think I paid around 4 -5 thousand pounds for it at the time.
The guitar is an old friend, it has travelled the world many times with me and still plays like new. Musicians who have tried it all raise their eyebrows as soon as they play it. It has a playability quality that rewards any effort put into it. It is regarded by freinds here as one of the best recording accoustics in Australia and is often used in studios (as long as I trust the artist :-) )
It was made in the USA before the Guild company was sold in about 1996 (I think). The label says it is a JF4-NT. Jacksons Rare Guitars, here in Australia, have told me that the guitar doesn't exist and that I have read the model number (over the phone) incorrectly. They say that Guild didn't make a JF4 with the NT extension.
Guild USA have confirmed that they did make a very small number of these, but they have lost many of their records. I want to insure the guitar properly and need a valuation. Guild suggested I either contact you guys or take it to an outfit in Nashville (Gruhn, or something like that). That's too hard...
As you can see by the photo, the label is very clear and unambiguous.
The back is solid mahogany, without any joins. It must have been carved somehow.
If you have the time to take a look, I would appreciate your opinion.
Thank you for your time!
Kind regards,
Trev
