I got a Gibson Explorer on a trade a few years ago and never really thought too much about it. Now that I'm going to sell it, I've been doing some research and as near as I can tell, it doesn't exist. The serial # is 83083535, so that means it's from 1983. Right? The inside of the control cavity shows me that the body is solid Mahogany. A bare spot on the neck looks like that is mahogany, too. The tuners say Gibson on the back of them. I know the pickups aren't original, and I'm pretty sure the one-ply pickguard is a replacement. Fretboard is rosewood, frets are low and fat. It has three control knobs in a row and nickel hardware. If it makes a difference, the dot on the i in the gold Gibson logo looks like it's stuck to the G. I keep thinking that maybe it's a knock-off of some sort, but if it is, it's the best playing, highest quality knock off I've ever seen. Oh, yeah, it's all black.
I looked through a few different sites and none of the explorers that were made in 1983 fit this description.
Any ideas???
