Hello. My friend has a pawn shop and has this guitar for sale and I want to buy it for my boyfriend. It's a Gibson Les Paul Custom. The serial number is 83510585, which came up as the following on the SN database.
Your guitar was made at the
Nashville Plant, TN, USA
December 17th, 1980
Production Number: 85
Gibson: Nashville
The pots #s are 71079, which according to the pot database, are correct for a Custom.
My concerns are that the back of the neck appears to have been painted (some overspray on the body); and that the truss rod cover has 3 screws; although I've read that although rare, not all are fake. And lastly, the neck doesn't have the LP Custom inlays on the fretboard, in fact there are none at all. Is it possible the neck was replaced with a non-gibson one and that the body is legit and if so, how would I know other than the pots?
Can anyone share what they know or think about what I have here. Pics are attached.
