Recently acquired an Epiphone EB-3L. Nice bass for the $$$, not the best live performance axe due to long scale (neck dive) and non-contoured body (tilts away when standing). I use this as a fake 5-string bass (B-E-A-D) for the few tunes I need it for. Tone wise, the stock PU's seem OK for this duty.
Anyway, the biggest problem I've encountered are the pots... their taper seems really fast (i.e. volume/tone when turned from full 10 to 8 sounds OK, but then drops very rapidly... almost like having on/off switches). I would like to replace them with a more traditional audio taper unit.
Any suggestions for values? I can't seem to find a schematic for this model. The Gibson schematics would probably be OK, but the volume pots can be either 500K, 300K, or 250K... depending on the year, choke in circuit, etc.
Anybody have specs on the Epi pickups; or compared to the old Gibson units? I use to play a friends EB-3 (short scale), but really did not dig the tone at all!
