Dear All,
My beloved 1980 Fender Precision bass and its original plastic hard case was 'lost' in transit by DHL last month. According to the tracking number, it reached the London Heathrow distribution centre at 6:17am on 3rd February 2011. Since then it has 'disappeared' from their system and they have declared it 'lost'.
This was my gigging bass in 3 bands through the 80s and early 90s, so it has great memories - and the usual dings and worn marks. I'm hoping readers might keep an eye out for it if you see it advertised somewhere.
I don't have any images to hand but here's a description:
Fender Precision electric bass guitar - shop customised
Year: 1978/80
Serial number on peghead: S893782
Colour:
body - Olympic white, faded to cream colour, with usual gig wear.
neck - Light maple neck, fretted.
pickguard - Black laminated.
Distinctive markings:
- Extra pickup: At my request the shop added a DiMarzio jazz bass pickup near the bridge, cream in colour (as distinct from Precision Custom basses which have a black jazz pickup).
- One extra volume control: Three knurled knobs instead of two (as distinct from Precision customs which have a Stratocaster-style switch and 2 knobs).
Case: Original black ABS plastic hard case embossed with Fender logo, lined with black velveteen. There's a small repair near the handle reinforced with sheet metal where it tore off at some point. The case has a green and white '5MMM radio' sticker on it and a narrow strip of red gaffer tape.
Other case contents:
- spare strings
- black leather strap
- 1/4" phono cable, coiled type
- cleaning cloth
As you can imagine I am distraught, and DHL's airy attitude ("go make a claim") had to be heard to be believed.
Any information leading to its recovery will be treated in confidence.
Reward offered for its safe return to me in London.
