1972 Gibson showcase brochures
1972 Gibson showcase brochuresIn 1972 Gibson produced a series of 'Guitar of the Month' brochures, each dedicated to one of their high end models, the Les Paul Recording guitar, L5-CES, ES-175D, Super 400-CES, ES-355TD-SV and Byrdland. Each brochure was a single sheet folded into four panels, with details of the instruments themselves, their features, musical purpose, and a little history behind the development of each guitar. Only the Les Paul Recording was a new model; the others were all well established in the Gibson line. 1961 Vox Stroller
1961 Vox Stroller electric guitar The earliest versions of the Vox Stroller were actually copies of an early Japanese electricguitar, the Guyatone (also sold under the brand Antoria) LG50. These Strollers, although short-lived did undergo a few changes before taking on the more familiar Strat influenced style of many mid-sixties UK-built Vox guitars. The biggest difference between early and late LG50-style Strollers (and the two pickup version, the Shadow) was the larger pickup, a shade longer, but noticeably wider used in the very first Vox guitars. Compare this early Vox to a 1963 Stroller with the later V1 pickup. For more information about Vox guitar pickups in general, see the Vox guitar pickups page.

    Default 1971 Gibson SG Custom

I recently picked up a 1971 Gibson SG Custom. It has a natural mahogany finish and 3 humbuckers. Somebody had painted part of it with really nasty floresent green textured paint. I got that off ok and all I had to do was touch up the clear coat (no sanding was done ). I have a question about the configuration. It does not have the standard 4 knobs with a 3 way switch. It only has 2 knobs and 4 toggles. 1 is the selector and the other 3 are for splitting each humbucker. I have not been able to find another like it. I cannot see where any mods have been done to make it this way. You cannot see where the other 2 pots would have gone or the original switch. I have removed the pickups and the channels are factory cut for them. Any ideas?

The pickups are not original .. they are at a guess, Dimarzios or Mighty Mite. They would be of the coil tappable variety, hence the 3 toggle switches in a row. I am assuming the top and bottom toggle switches, hide the holes where the pots originaly were. To fit the middle toggle another hole was drilled again at a guess.
    The bridge is original ...
