1972 Gibson showcase brochures
1972 Gibson showcase brochuresIn 1972 Gibson produced a series of 'Guitar of the Month' brochures, each dedicated to one of their high end models, the Les Paul Recording guitar, L5-CES, ES-175D, Super 400-CES, ES-355TD-SV and Byrdland. Each brochure was a single sheet folded into four panels, with details of the instruments themselves, their features, musical purpose, and a little history behind the development of each guitar. Only the Les Paul Recording was a new model; the others were all well established in the Gibson line. Follow the link to see scans and further information on these leaflets and other Gibson guitar catalogues from the CMI and Norlin periods.
1961 Vox Stroller
1961 Vox Stroller electric guitar The earliest versions of the Vox Stroller were actually copies of an early Japanese electricguitar, the Guyatone (also sold under the brand Antoria) LG50. These Strollers, although short-lived did undergo a few changes before taking on the more familiar Strat influenced style of many mid-sixties UK-built Vox guitars. The biggest difference between early and late LG50-style Strollers (and the two pickup version, the Shadow) was the larger pickup, a shade longer, but noticeably wider used in the very first Vox guitars. Compare this early Vox to a 1963 Stroller with the later V1 pickup. For more information about Vox guitar pickups in general, see the Vox guitar pickups page.

Default Lookin 4 Vintage Hofner Electric Guitar Model 459VTZ

    Hi there Dudes & Dudettes!
I am looking for the following guitar below...
Hofner Viola Electric Guitar, late 1967, Model 459VTZ
If anyone know of where I might be able to locate one
of the above guitars, please email me and with a price too.
I am NOT a collector, but I want it for my daughter for a keepsake.
As, I use to have one until the late 1970's, just before she was born, and I had to sell it and my VOX VISCOUNT amp too. I also had a VOX Phantom 6 string guitar too. I sold all of it in despiration for $1,000.00, due to, I had a new born child coming very soon, October 1979. But, now I am trying to research those missing items for her, for her memory of me, before I pass.
I use to play in a Oldies Rock-n-Roll Band in TULSA OKLA, back in the late 1960's... I was in band #1 called the MARQUIS, band #2 The VIGILANCE COMMITTEE, and finally band #3 The HALLUCINATIONS. We were a #1 Band in the Mid West back in those years... 1964 thru 1968 until I was drafted into the Viet-Nam War period.

    Default old guitars

    interesting post...

sounds like you had a lot of good times with some great old instruments. Got any pictures of those band line-ups (or of those old guitars)?

I don't suppose you know serial numbers? You never know, you might be able to find your original instruments

    Default The Hallucinations!!!!!

You just gotta love a band called the 'The Hallucinations' great name ...still smiling at that one.

One point just wondering whether the Hofner model designations were different in the US as to Europe.

You might have more chance tracking one down over here especially if there was some reason Hofner couldnt use President, Senator etc because another company had got in first in the naming rights.

The Hofner you seek might have a different name over here in Europe!

oh and good luck with your search!

    Default Hofner 173

    Hi,
I'm looking to bid on a Hofner 173 on a New Zealand auction site. I've seen a few similar guitars around and like them a lot but have never got an idea of value. This is the one for sale. Any advice on what would be a good and fair price would be greatly appreciated.

    2 NZ dollars = 1 pound (approx).
    Thanks!

I did fine a 1966 Hofner Vtz459 6string electric guitar w/o whammie stick for about $2K in LasVagas Nevada, use much used but still plays very nice.
But I am wanting a 1967 Vtz459 6string electric guitar w/Vibrato stick and Distortion Booster too & original hard shell case Red interrior 7 Black Exterrior.
I an still looking for a VOX VISCOUNT in Original condition and still working too.
